In her journey, Juliet encounters both previous acquaintances and brand new characters who were made for more modern audiences. Building on the original with contemporary themes, the musical revives the late tragedy and finds a way to entertain even young viewers.

William Shakespeare's love story has long been famous as one of the saddest tales in several decades, with Romeo and Juliet’s passionate infatuation for one another resulting in their death by their own hands. Using Shakespeare and his wife, Hathaway, as characters in the musical itself though, West End's brand-new musical, & Juliet, places in a new twist by allowing Juliet to discover what life has to offer after Romeo's suicide and empowering her to finally make her own decisions. Opting to escape Verona with her equally-resolved group, they are all introduced to a new landscape beyond what Juliet and her friends were used to once they move to Paris.
Given that 400 years have passed since Romeo and Juliet, '& Juliet' also applies modernized execution that fits current times. To deliver its message across to the audience, ‘& Juliet’ promotes a slew of songs from pop music industry's top hitmaker, Max Martin. The Swedish record producer earlier on had an idea of creating a musical around all his songs over his career, which prompted ‘& Juliet’ being launched and afterwards having its first run in 2019. Max Martin was completely selfless in the manipulation of his songs to the production, stating that he “wished for '& Juliet' to have its own unique identity, and to let audiences experience that even if his songs are performed differently, you could enjoy his music just as much.” The ongoing musical now has the songs from world-class artists such as Katy Perry, Demi Lovato, Adam Lambert, and The Backstreet Boys, among others.
