Production producer Lin-Manuel Miranda, fresh off his success from his previous Broadway production, In the Heights, conceptualized Hamilton for a number of years before it opened in the Richard Rodgers Theatre in 2015. It was in this debut that Miranda also played the lead role. The entirety of the show, including its stellar cast and awesome music received highly regarded praise from both critics and new fans alike.
The show, as most know, is a historical story created about one of Americas Founding Fathers, but Hamilton takes a contemporary and modern approach, as seen in the music styles chosen and more so in its multicultural cast. Also, the 2016 Tony Awards, where the show bagged 11 out of 16 nominations, is a display of its success. Hamilton’s original cast included the actors and actresses, Philippa Soo, Leslie Odom Jr., and Jonathan Groff. Individually, the cast was already filled with both famous nominees and previous award winners, but their wide range and rich performances taken collectively brought the Musical to a completely new level. The production team, just as equally talented, collected Tony Awards for Hamilton. Thomas Kail for Best Direction, Andy Blankenbuehler for Best Choreography, Alex Lacamoire for Best Orchestrations, Howell Binkley for Best Lighting Design of a Musical, Paul Tazewell for Best Costume Design of a Musical, and of course the man himself Lin-Manuel Miranda for Best Original Score and Best Book of a Musical, all stole the show at the 70th Tony Awards. Additionally, and unsurprisingly, Hamilton also took home Best Musical for the year. The present cast and production crew in each new venue where the production is on tour brings the same energy and enthusiasm in their runs, with glowing reviews maintained regularly.
The show’s meteoric rise to fame led to opening many doors all over the world for the fans to experience Hamilton. It has continued for the past 10 years to perform not just in America, but also over in the UK's West End and in numerous venues across Asia. The production’s limited season will be heading to New Orleans throughout April (and on Tuesday 15th April 2025) at Saenger Theatre, performing at one more world-class stage with the best facilities and sound engineering that could surpass even Broadway and West End theaters.
