Production creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, fresh off the breakout success from his last Broadway show, In the Heights, conceptualized Hamilton for a couple of years before it opened in the Richard Rodgers Theatre in 2015. It was in this debut that Miranda also played the title role. The entirety of the production, including its brilliant cast and impressive score received highly regarded praise from both critics and new fans alike.
Hamilton, as you might know, is a historical tale based off one of the Countries Founding Fathers, but Hamilton takes a fresh and modern approach, as seen in the music genres used and more so in its diverse casting. Additionally, the 2016 Tony Awards, where the Musical was awarded 11 out of 16 nominations, is a display of its success. the show’s initial cast included the actors and actresses, Philippa Soo, Leslie Odom Jr., and Jonathan Groff. Individually, the cast was already filled with both well-known nominees and awardees, but their varied and rich performances combined brought the production to a whole new level. The production team, just as incredibly talented, won Tony Awards for the Musical. Thomas Kail for Best Direction, Andy Blankenbuehler for Best Choreography, Alex Lacamoire for Best Orchestrations, Howell Binkley for Best Lighting Design of a Musical, Paul Tazewell for Best Costume Design of a Musical, and of course Lin-Manuel Miranda himself for Best Original Score and Best Book of a Musical, all stole the show at the 70th Tony Awards. Above all and unsurprisingly, Hamilton also won Best Musical for 2016. The touring cast and production crew in each new venue where Hamilton is performed brings the same energy and inspiration in their runs, with glowing reviews maintained consistently.
Hamilton’s global rise to fame led to opening many doors worldwide for audiences to experience Hamilton. It has continued for the past 10 years to perform not just in the U.S.A., but also over in the UK's West End and in numerous theaters across Asia. Hamilton’s touring production will be making its way to New Orleans throughout April (and on Wednesday 9th April 2025) at Saenger Theatre, performing at yet another world-class stage with the greatest facilities and sound engineering that rivals even Broadway and West End theaters.
