A Christmas Story at Saenger Theatre

Based on the humorous writings of author Jean Shepherd, this beloved holiday movie follows the wintry exploits of youngster Ralphie Parker (Peter Billingsley). Young Ralphie spends most of his time dodging a bully (Zack Ward) and dreaming of his ideal Christmas gift, a "Red Ryder air rifle."

He is also frequently at odds with his cranky dad (Darren McGavin) but comforted by his doting mother (Melinda Dillon). Ralphie struggles to make it to Christmas Day with his glasses and his hopes intact.

Charles Isherwood, in his review of the Broadway production for The New York Times, wrote: [T]he stage version lightens up a little on the cute, smart-alecky asides… making room for the music and allowing the story mostly to speak for itself… Mr. Pasek and Mr. Paul have provided a likable, perky score that duly translates all of the major episodes in the story into appropriate musical numbers.
