This April, Hamilton will be performing in Saenger Theatre, the highest rated entertainment venue of New Orleans and the greatest possible entertainment venue for this world-wide phenomenon Musical. The acclaimed and multi-award winning performance continues to tell its outstanding tale from city to city all over the world.

Hamilton's off Broadway in 2015, The Musical was not the instant Broadway play that it is today. Lin-Manuel Miranda has talked honestly about its origins, starting as a concept album in 2009, with Miranda saying that he was “thrilled that the White House called me tonight, because I’m actually working on a hip-hop album. It's a concept album about the life of someone I think embodies hip-hop: treasury secretary Alexander Hamilton.” That singular performance earned praise and a well-deserved standing ovation from the audience at the time, as well as former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, and has led to Miranda’s completion of the Hamilton musical we see now.

Due to his previous experience in musical theater, Lin-Manuel Miranda has also found inspiration from other popular theater pieces such as Les Misérables, which follows a common theme that tells the history of a struggle, and succeeding from that struggle, as opposed to the usual musical theatre biases that follow the trend of being very uplifting and happy. Similarly Hamilton, being about the struggle of an orphaned immigrant from the Caribbean who climbed the ladder and became the first U.S. Treasury Secretary. With the greatest respect to its source material, the Musical shows us both the good and bad in Alexander Hamilton’s rise to power, by not only offering us a glimpse into his character and struggle, but also his influence and lasting legacy in being able to powerfully shape America during its time period.

With its story, Hamilton continues to present its timelessness in American culture and even on the international stage, confronting topics and challenges that are highly relevant not only to the Nation, but also around the world. Even the use of musical styles of hip hop, jazz, and R&B as the shows score has solidified its place in pop culture, making it one of the most popular hit New Orleans musicals today.
